“Participation is not only about being present in the room.It is about being heard, recognised, and able to shape the decisions that affect your life.”

One of the strongest points of the event was that participation cannot be reduced to consultation, representation, or access to institutions.

For migrant and refugee women, participation is shaped not only by legal status or policy frameworks, but also by everyday experiences of recognition, trust, safety, and inclusion.

In this sense, meaningful participation is not simply about asking people to share their experiences after decisions have already been shaped. It requires creating spaces where migrant and refugee women can influence how problems are defined, which priorities are set, and what solutions are imagined.

Behind every procedure, there is a person.

Behind every decision, there is a story.

Behind every number, there is someone waiting to be seen, heard, believed, or protected.

As migration debates across Europe continue to focus on implementation, management, and efficiency, this discussion was a reminder that migration is not only a policy issue.

It is also a question of dignity, identity, and belonging.
